Cheryl’s Closet aims to support all students of Alfred University by offering them business attire free of charge, empowering them to project confidence and professionalism. To ensure that students can make an outstanding first impression, Cheryl’s Closet has a large selection of professional attire suited to a variety of styles, cultures, sizes, and gender expressions.

To select items from Cheryl’s Closet, make an appointment using Handshake or stop by the Career Development Center during drop-in hours.
What types of clothing and accessories are available?
Cheryl’s Closet offers hundreds of items in a wide range of styles and sizes, including business professional (suits, dress shirts, blouses, dresses) and business casual wear (dress pants, khakis and chinos, dresses, skirts, polo and button-front shirts, blouses). We also have a limited selection of accessories, including ties and scarves, shoes, jewelry, and overcoats.
What if I don’t know my size?
Cheryl’s Closet features a private dressing room. Students are encouraged to try on clothing and accessory items: we want you to feel comfortable and confident!
What if I’m not sure what to wear?
The situation – interview, networking event or dinner, career fair, conference, paper presentation or thesis defense – will determine how formally you should dress. Career Development Center staff can help you select apparel appropriate for the circumstance, and help you decide which items fit you best.
Supporting Cheryl’s Closet
Cheryl’s Closet is entirely supported by donations. Alfred University Trustee Dr. Cheryl R. Blanchard provided the founding donation, and the Alfred community generously supplied hundreds of new and gently used items to fill the closet. Additional donations are always gratefully accepted! Donations are accepted every Monday the University is open, 9 am to 4 pm, and can be dropped off at Cheryl's Closet (located on the 2nd floor of Alumni Hall). We accept gently used professional attire free of stains, rips, and loud prints.
